| MATADOR FC VS Prestige Marine Services FC |
 By Martin Stevens 2/7/2010
|
|
| Date: 7-Feb |
| Time: 11 AM |
| Venue: Singapore Sports School |
| Result: MATADOR FC(3) - Prestige Marine Services FC(1) |
|
The title of this match report is “Why I should not give
Pieter the Man of the Match Award?”
With several key players missing including Dave
Squires, Giles, Nizal and Jeremie , we were pleased to
get the services of debutants, Larry and Joe. Matador
were eager to keep their recent run of good results
going to keep the pressure on the top two teams in the
league.
Matador started quite brightly putting pressure on the
opposing back four and pressing them into a series of
mistakes. Eventually this led to Matadors first goal as
Pieter won the ball on the right side of the area, looked
up and pulled it back for the gaffer to notch his first goal
of the season. So Pieter got an assist – big deal!
Other chances followed but none taken including a
glaring miss from the gaffer just before the break.
In the second half, Prestige threatened more often and
became more solid but we managed to stretch our lead
as Pieter ran down the right, fired in a cross / shot
which was parried but Aidil was on hand to turn it in at
the far post. 2-0 and another assist for Pieter – so what!
Prestige pulled back a goal with a cracking long range
effort to reduce the arrears before Pieter was on a
rampaging run into the area before he was taken out
for an obvious penalty. After a long delay, Pieter kept
his head to slot the penalty home and make the game
safe. So an assist and a goal – does that justify being
given a MOM award. Er, well yes I guess three assists
and a goal probably just about clinches it. Pieter seems
to like doing things the hard way – all he had to do was
buy me a beer!
Thanks to Prestige for a good game.

| Great game of football by everyone! But let's avoid
talking so much to the opponents and the referee. Why
discuss a decision in our favour?
Let's keep the momentum against FC Socheaux (it
should be spelt Sochaux, by the way... I wonder what is
the most shocking, whether it's their spelling of the
club's name or the fact that they picked a team whose
best player ever is certainly the infamous Stephane
Paille). |
